Aryan Khan’s bail petition is coming to court after a witness in the case, Samir Wankhede, an officer with the Narcotics Prevention Unit, who is leading the investigation, demanded 8 crore.
Aryan Khan’s bail plea is being heard in the Mumbai High Court today. The 23-year-old son of jailed superstar Shah Rukh Khan has twice been denied bail since October 8 in a drug trafficking case.
Former Indian Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi will appear in court on behalf of Aryan Khan.
The Narcotics Control Bureau or the NCP has filed an affidavit opposing Aryan Khan’s bail application, which is a misconception. The agency said Shahrukh Khan’s manager, Pooja Dadlani, had tried to influence witnesses in the case.
“While the investigation is ongoing, the woman (Pooja Dadlani) appears to have influenced such a witness.
Samir Wankade, an officer with the Narcotics Prevention Agency, which is leading the investigation, is also seeking bail as he is seeking 8 crore in compensation from a witness in the case.
The Anti-Drug Agency supported the officer, citing a “flawless service record.” The NCB said Mr Sail had become “hostile” to the pay claim made by Prabhakar Sail, a witness in the case.
Last week, a special court in Mumbai ruled that Aryan Khan’s WhatsApp chats indicated that he was “constantly involved in drug dealing” and therefore could not say that he was unlikely to commit such crimes while on bail.
The court also noted that the material placed on the “Nexus” record between Aryan Khan and the suppliers and sidewalk vendors.
Although no drugs were found on Aryan Khan, the court said he knew about the six grams of charas hidden in his friend Arbas Merchant’s shoe.
Lawyers Satish Maneshinde and Amit Desai, appearing for Aryan Khan, argued in court that the NCB was misinterpreting his WhatsApp chats and trapping him.
Aryan Khan also questioned the special court’s argument, while denying him bail, which could damage the evidence in the case if he is released from custody because he is an influential person.
“As a person is influential, there is no presumption in law that he is likely to damage evidence,” the appeal said.
Aryan Khan, his friend Arbas Merchant and model front Tamecha and five others were arrested after officers of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCP) raided a rave party on a cruise ship from Mumbai on October 2. Up to 20.
On October 21, Shah Rukh Khan visited Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai to meet his son. It was their first physical encounter. Earlier, Aryan Khan spoke on a video call with his parents.
The Maharashtra government has sparked political controversy by accusing the NCB of pursuing certain individuals on the orders of the central government.
NCP leader Nawab Malik has been criticizing the Narcotics Prevention Agency and its investigations into the Aryan Khan case, alleging that it was forged with Samir Wankhede’s birth certificate.
Mr Wankhede said it was an “unnecessary invasion” of his family’s privacy, “intended to humiliate me, my family, my father and my late mother.”
