ICMR claims that similar studies have been conducted in China and the Netherlands, and it was also found that Plasma Therapy is not showing promising results in moderate patients.

According to ICMR, plasma therapy has not seen a particular benefit. ICMR conducted a study on coronavirus positive moderate patients in 39 government and private hospitals in the country, which were patients who were given plasma therapy. After studying more than 400 patients, ICMR has concluded that plasma therapy is not making a special advantage over moderate patients. This is the largest ever study ever conducted in the world.

Who could be plasma donor?

The ICMR claims that similar studies have been conducted in China and the Netherlands, and it was also found that plasma therapy is not showing promising results in moderate patients. The ICMR has also revealed who can be a Plasma Donor. Men above 50 kg weight of 18 to 65 years can donate plasma. Women who have never conceived can also be plasma donor.

Plasma Donor, one who has never been corona positive, can make plasma donations for 14 days after the symptoms were exhausted. Their corona test is not necessarily negative, i.e., plasma can be donated 14 days after the end of the symptom.

Who is the plasma receiver?

Regarding plasma receiver, ICMR has also stated in its guidelines that those who have early corona symptoms may benefit slightly from giving plasma therapy. According to ICMR, plasma therapy should be given to patients who have never formed corona-fighting antibodies in their bodies and plasma therapy should be received within 3 to 7 days of the onset of symptoms if 10 days have passed, then plasma therapy will be of no use.
