Foreign Minister S Jaishankar meets with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov to discuss what issues

New Delhi, agencies. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Thursday in Moscow.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said, during the meeting, the two leaders discussed international issues including bilateral affairs, regional developments.
The external affairs Minister also attended the eight-member Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) foreign ministers ‘ meeting in Russia’s capital Moscow.
In a tweet, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said, the talks held in the meeting with Sergei Lavrov reflect our privileged strategic partnership.
He also posted a collective photograph of foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member countries. It also includes China and Pakistan. This was the third meeting of sco foreign ministers in which India participated as a full member.
The External Affairs Ministry in its statement in the past said that India has been actively participating in various SCO dialogue mechanisms under the chairmanship of Russia this year. The SCO foreign ministers’ meeting in Moscow also reviewed the preparations for the forthcoming SCO summit and discussed international and regional issues. The SCO was established by Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan at a summit in Shanghai in 2001.
India and Pakistan were inducted as observers of the group in the year 2005. Later in the year 2017, both the countries were inducted as full members. It is noteworthy that the meeting took place at a time when tensions between India and China in eastern Ladakh are at its peak. The armies of both the countries have been scared of the border. In the past, China has made several attempts to change the border which has been foiled by indian Army Jawans.
