This feature can be used for contactless payments with NFC enabled POS. The key to this feature is that payments can be made through digital tokens without sharing the card’s detail. According to the company, google pay users will be able to make contactless payments to over 2.5 million VISA merchants and over 1.5 million Bharat QR enabled merchants.
While the feature is currently available only for Axis Bank and SBI users, it may soon include other banks.
“We are committed to offering our customers a secure payment experience and the use of tokens also eliminates the chance of fraud,” said Sytha Siwanandan, business head of Google Pay & NBU India. We hope that the token facility will encourage the customer to transact securely at the present time and expand merchant transactions both online and offline.
