Mobile internet speed in India increased by 47% in last one year


Mobile and fixed broadband internet speeds in India are showing an upward trend in June, according to Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index. Average mobile download speed in the country increased by 16.3 percent to 17.84 Mbps from 15.34 Mbps in May. With mobile internet, the average fixed broadband internet speed in the country increased by 4.53 percent to 58.17 Mbps from 55.65 Mbps. Both mobile and fixed broadband internet speeds for June were the country’s highest speeds on the global index.

Available on Speedtest Global Index data for june shows that India has climbed six places to 122nd position in mobile download speed and three points to 70th position in fixed broadband download speed. Ookla said the country has topped the global rankings in terms of mobile internet speed for the third time in a row and overall mobile download speeds have improved steadily over the past two months.

Mobile Internet speeds in June

Released by Ookla speedtest data As per the report, the average mobile download speed of 17.84 Mbps in the country made for an annual growth of 46.71 percent from 12.16 Mbps in June 2020. The average mobile upload speed in the country also increased by 18.85 per cent to 5.17 Mbps in June 2021 from 4.35 Mbps in the same month last year. It grew 2.38 percent from 5.05 Mbps in May.
Apart from mobile download and upload speeds, the average latency rate in the country on mobile networks declined to 48 milliseconds in June from 50 milliseconds in May. The average jitter rate also fell five milliseconds from 48 milliseconds in May to 43 milliseconds in June.

Globally, the Speedtest Global Index by Ookla shows that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) maintained its lead with an average mobile download speed of 193.51Mbps, followed by South Korea at 180.48Mbps. When it comes to mobile internet speed compared to last month’s record, Oman has registered the highest increase of 26 places in the subcontinent. This southeastern coastal country rose to the 15th position in the global rankings.

Fixed broadband speeds in June

Talking about fixed broadband June Speedtest Data shows that an average download speed of 58.17Mbps in India in June 2021 means a 52.32 percent increase from the 38.19Mbps speed reported for June 2020.
On the other hand, the average fixed broadband upload speed in the country reached 54.43 Mbps in June 2021, an increase of 59.06 percent from 34.22 Mbps in the same month last year. This too saw an increase of 3.97 per cent from 52.35 Mbps in May. However, the average latency rate on fixed broadband in the country increased from one millisecond in June to 17 milliseconds, according to data provided by Ookla.

Monaco emerged as the top country in terms of fixed broadband speed with an average download speed of 260.74 Mbps in June. The country bordering France is followed by Singapore and Hong Kong, which have moved up to the second and third places in the global fixed broadband index.
