Kerala has been informed by Tamil Nadu that if the water level in the dam does not fall, the dam will be opened at 7 am tomorrow.
Idukki: The water level (Water level) in mullaiperiyar dam has risen to 138.05 feet. Following this, the district administration issued a second warning (Second Warning Alert) at Mullaperiyar. Heavy rain had fallen last evening in the catchment area of the dam. Meanwhile, Kerala has been informed by Tamil Nadu that if the water level in the dam does not fall, the dam will be opened at 7 am tomorrow (Friday).
In seconds, 3800 cubic feet of water flows into the dam. Tamil Nadu carries 2300 cubic feet of water. If water is released from Mullaperiyar, it will reach idukki dam along periyar river.
Meanwhile, Water Minister Roshi Augustine said Kerala has already accepted the preparations before the dam is opened and the state is ready.
The Supervisory Committee had on Wednesday held in the Supreme Court that there should be no change in the water level in mullaiperiyar dam. The oversight committee also said that Kerala had registered its disagreement with the decision. The court directed Kerala to reply to the supervisory committee report. The case will be considered again on Thursday at 2 pm.
It was also announced that the Chief Ministers of Kerala and Tamil Nadu would hold discussions on mullaiperiyar issue. Mk Stalin and Pinarayi Vijayan will meet in Chennai in December. The Chief Ministers are expected to discuss issues including dam vulnerability and safety measures. Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Duraimurukan and Roshi Augustine from Kerala will participate in the talks.
