Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 were launched on Wednesday at the Galaxy Unpacked event. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is an upgrade over the previous Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 has been launched as an upgrade to the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Flip 5G. Both the new foldable phones come with a water-resistant IPX8 build, which is made from Samsung’s Armor Aluminium. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 both come with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Samsung claims that it has increased the stability of its flexible display available on the new models by almost 80 percent compared to the previous foldable phones. A new protective film has been used in this. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 also has S Pen support.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is priced at $1,799.99 (about Rs 1,33,600) in the US. The phone will come in Phantom Black, Phantom Green and Phantom Silver color options. The phone has been launched in 12GB + 256GB and 12GB + 512GB storage configurations. In contrast, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 price starts at $999.99 (approximately Rs 74,200). The phone will come in Cream, Green, Grey, Lavender, Phantom Black, Pink and White color options. Of these, Grey, Pink and White color options will be exclusive to the Samsung.com website only.

Both the phones will go on sale starting August 27 in select markets including the US, Europe and South Korea. Pre-orders have started from today. However, information about the price and availability of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 in India is yet to come.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 specifications

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 runs on One UI based on Android 11. It sports a 7.6-inch primary QXGA+ (2,208×1,768 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex display, which supports 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 22.5:18 aspect ratio and 374ppi pixel density. The phone also sports a 6.2-inch HD+ (832×2,268 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X secondary display, which supports 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 24.5:9 aspect ratio and 387ppi pixel density. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the new foldable phone are similar in display size. However, Samsung has increased the resolution this time for better quality. The cover screen of the new model has also been upgraded with 120Hz refresh rate.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 gets a 5nm octa-core chipset, which has a maximum clock speed of 2.84GHz. The company is yet to reveal the exact name of the SoC, though it is expected to be Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 includes 12GB of RAM.

The new foldable phone comes equipped with a triple rear camera setup. The camera setup includes a 12-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.8 wide-angle lens and optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12-megapixel ultra-wide shooter and a 12-megapixel third sensor with a telephoto lens, with dual OIS Support is available.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 packs a 10-megapixel camera on the cover for selfies and video chats. It is paired with an f/2.2 lens that has an 80-degree field-of-view. Above the folding screen of the phone is a 4-megapixel under-display camera equipped with an f/1.8 lens. This is the biggest USP of this phone.

UFS 3.1 storage is available in the phone. Connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) and USB Type-C port. The phone comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Samsung has added S Pen support to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and has produced two new S Pen models in collaboration with Wacom. These have been named S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro. As the name suggests, the first one is S Pen for the new Fold 3 and does not have Bluetooth connectivity. It supports air command gestures and has a pro tip. The Pro variant is compatible with all Samsung devices that have S Pen support and comes with Bluetooth connectivity. The charging port is also present in the Pro.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 packs a 4,400mAh dual-cell battery, supports both wireless and wired charging, and comes equipped with reverse wireless charging. The battery can be charged with the included 25W fast charger in the box. The dimensions of the phone are 67.1×158.2x16mm when folded and 128.1×158.2×6.4mm when opened. Its weight is 271 grams.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 runs on One UI based on Android 11. It gets a 6.7-inch primary full-HD+ (1,080×2,640 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex display, which supports 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 22:9 aspect ratio and 425ppi pixel density. The size of the primary display is 1.9-inch, with 260×512 pixel resolution and 302ppi pixel density.

Samsung has put a 5nm octa-core SoC on the Galaxy Z Flip 3 with a maximum clock speed of 2.84GHz. Like the Galaxy Z Fold 3, you can expect it to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 sports a dual rear camera setup, with a 12-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.8 wide-angle lens and OIS, and a second 12-megapixel ultra-wide shooter. The phone also has a 10-megapixel selfie camera above the folding display, which has an aperture of f / 2.4.
