Why Chinese President Xi Jinping wants to build new ‘socialist Tibet’

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for making Tibet a “new modern socialist” region, building an “impenetrable wall” against separatism there and “sinization” of Tibetan Buddhism.

Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for making Tibet a “new modern socialist” region, building an “impenetrable wall” against separatism there and “cinoration” of Tibetan Buddhism. This was stated by China’s official media on Saturday. Addressing the Seventh Central Conference on Tibet Work, Xi Jinping said efforts should be made to build a Tibet that is united, prosperous, culturally advanced, harmonious and beautiful, according to Xinhua news agency.

Underlining the need to fully implement the Chinese Communist Party’s policies of governing Tibet in the new era, the Chinese president said in his speech in detail that efforts should be made to build a “new modern socialist” Tibet.

Xi Jinping also spoke of the “sinization” of Tibetan Buddhism. Sinization means bringing non-Chinese communities under Chinese culture and then applying the political system of the Chinese Communist Party with the concept of socialism to it.
